Sofia the First is an American computer-animated television series developed for Disney Junior by Craig Gerber. It is about a young girl named Sofia, learning to be a princess after her commoner mother marries the king of Enchancia. On her first night in the castle, she receives the Amulet of Avalor, a mystical jewel that gives her extraordinary powers; the first of which is talking to animals. The Amulet of Avalor has a deep backstory, which has led her on a lot of her adventures and granted her big roles in protecting her kingdom and beyond.
It premiered on Disney Channel's Disney Junior block on November 18, 2012, with the television film, Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess. The series proper began on January 11, 2013, with "Just One of the Princes". In total there have been 108 episodes and four seasons. During that time, three episodes have been extended-length specials, along with a crossover special, Elena and the Secret of Avalor, which serves to bridge the gap between Sofia the First and the sister series Elena of Avalor. Season four began on April 28, 2017, and concluded on September 8, 2018.
