Alacazar was the royal wizard of the kingdom of Avalor until Shuriki's invasion. He witnessed the enchanted Amulet of Avalor safe Princess Elena by pulling her within its jewel, and traveled far to the kingdom of Enchancia where he stopped in the Secret Library, transforming himself into a spirit bound inside a book, waiting for the young princess who had the courage and ingenuity to be able to free Elena, who turned out to be Princess Sofia.
Sofia eventually mailed the book containing Alacazar back to Elena in Avalor, as it was crumbling away. Mateo de Alva, his grandson, was able to cast a spell which freed him from the book and restored him to life. Unfortunately, it was only a brief time, as he sacrificed himself to save Mateo from being blasted by Master Zopilote's tamborita.

Early life[]

41 years ago, Shuriki invaded Avalor and killed Princess Elena's parents from a blast from her wand.[1][2] In an attempt to save the royal family, Alacazar was going to make a spell to put turn them into a painting,[1] but in order to buy him some time, Elena confronted Shuriki by herself.[1][2] Shuriki fired at Elena, but her amulet saved her by sucking her inside its jewel. Unknown to Shuriki, but known to Alacazar (who had finished his spell), who secretly witnessed this and retrieved the amulet (having been told by Zuzo, his chanul (a spirit animal), before going on a long search to find the princess who could set her free. However, he grew too old, so he went to the Secret Library, and used his magic to turn himself into a spirit, waiting in a special book he titled The Lost Princess of Avalor, for the princess who would one day be found and ready to take on the task of freeing Elena and helping set her kingdom free.[2]

When Fiero turned virtually everyone at the royal palace into stone, only leaving Elena, Naomi Turner, Lt. Gabe Núñez, and his grandson and newly appointed royal wizard, Mateo de Alva, they had to locate the Codex Maru, which Alacazar had kept locked away in his secret workshop in the palace.[3]

- Alacazar's name is derived from "álacázar," the Spanish word for "fort."[4].
- In Aldina Dias's storyboards for Elena and the Secret of Avalor, he is referred to as Zarwin. He is also portrayed with a different character design[5].
